Went to visit on a weekday. It was a nice chill vibe, not overly crowded. The service was just OK. Everyone was nice enough. After taking our orders and bringing our food, we didn't see our waitress again until we asked for the check because another waitress gave us a refill. There was not too long of a wait for our food. The burrito I had was delicious! The margarita I had was soo watered down, I am rare drinker, and I couldn't taste one drop of alcohol nor sweetness it was a terrible drink. I would give them another try because it wasn't an overly terrible visit.
I love this place. I love the food, I love the staff, and I love the atmosphere.
This is a Top 10 Mexican restaurant in Tacoma. The service is ALWAYS excellent. We are always welcomed with a sincere Bienvenidos, y hola amigos. The service is fast, the food is good. The prices are well without reason, especially in this post- pandemic, Bidenomics, tough to scrape two nickels together era, but I digress.
This place is essentially located, has excellent parking is close to I-5, the mall, and Costco.
If you haven't been here, you should check it out. If you have been here you should go back.

The food was excellent and good margaritas. Very reasonably priced as it's about 30 per person for an entrée and 1 drink, depending on what you order. I ordered the 3 combo entrée with 2 enchiladas and a chalupa with a mango margarita 😋 large servings 👀 the service was great. Very attentive and accommodating. I highly recommend this place for your Mexican cuisine adventures. I added some pictures of the food our whole party ordered.
We had a 21 person birthday celebration at Tonala last night. SHORTY our waitress was absolutely amazing!! Very attentive, on top of drinks. All food brought out at the same time. Only 1 guest complained about the temperature of their plate. Food presentation was spectacular and delicious. Kudos to the kitchen staff!!! We will now have a new family Mexican food destination. Thank you for being so accommodating for our group.
We had a great lunch here. It was very good food. They made it exactly how we wanted. Large portion sizes. The servers were very attentive, bringing drinks, chips, ect. The atmosphere was perfect for chatting without feeling like we were interrupting others. Overall, it was a great experience.
Great food. Terrific bar selection. Best mexican style I've had north of San Diego.
I've dined in here multiple times for lunch but this was my first time doing takeout. It was better to call in an order because the DoorDash app didn't have the same menu options. It was easy and quick to call in and they got the order exactly right. Only waited a few minutes to pickup because I got there early. The service and atmosphere at Tonala are so good! Everyone is so friendly. The food is consistent and delicious.
Seriously awesome Mexican cuisine! My wife and I lived in LA and feel we are a pretty good judge of food south if the border. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and even played with our 13mo old daughter a little! Food as stated was genuinely amazing! The ambiance was excellent and the decorations on point. If your looking for a family friendly restaurant give this a go! 10/10
